The Husky Fex21 is now available with the full retail version of Microsoft Handheld PC 2000 (HPC 2000) operating system. This positions the Fex21 as the first rugged handheld computer to include an integrated Windows 2000 Terminal Services Client and updated web browser, giving enterprise customers access to full-function desktop applications in a wireless-ready mobile device.
HPC 2000 is based on the Microsoft Windows CE 3.0 core operating system. This new operating system introduces a thin client application for Windows 2000 Terminal Services, a Microsoft Internet Explorer v4.0 compatible browser with increased support for HTML 4.0 and animated graphics, a Windows Media™ Player for digital music, and enhanced encryption and security features. The advantage of the full retail version is that it includes the Pocket versions of the Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access. The availability of these familiar applications greatly increases the usability of the Fex21 and provides mobile users with even greater functionality while on the move.
Handheld PC 2000 features include the following:
The option to upgrade existing Husky Fex21's to HPC 2000 is available. Since this requires hardware modifications to the basic design of the Fex21, upgrades must be returned for service. This upgrade option is only available for the 129MHz version of the Husky Fex21. Details can be obtained by contacting Handheld Systems.
